Turret Clocks or Tower clocks are those pieces of Horological machinery that exist behind Church and Public building clock faces.
They were really only ever seen by the person who once a week went up the tower to wind them and yet they can be incredibly
ornate and detailed. Probably the most famous Turret Clock is the Great Clock of Westminster (Popularly known as Big Ben,
although this name actually refers to the bell and not the clock.) The Great Clock of Westminster is actually 150 years old
this year.
Electric Master Clocks were used in many factory, office, school and public buildings in the past to distribute synchronised time around
the building. Many of these clocks went into the skip as soon as quartz clocks became cheaply available and the cost of keeping
the master clock well maintained became too much.
Other Interesting Clocks. Unusual, strange, wierd & wacky clocks.
